20mm British Shermans

A couple of shots of the 20mm Shermans I've just painted.

Had to order some more decals as the ones I got were hopeless, most wouldn't come off the paper. Will add them to the tanks later.

Got the painting technique for these 20mm WW2 AFV's off a Youtube tutorial. AFV's seem relatively easy, it's the detail in the figures I can't do.

The last time I painted some 20mm Shermans was for the one and only Peter Gilder at the Thornton-le-Dale wargames centre. I painted five or six for him. This was back in the late seventies.

It was all Humbrol enamel paints in those days, so you had to rely heavily on layers of dry-brushing over a black undercoat. Acrylics are so much better and easier to use, and the ink washes give such a good effect.

Steve - I'm building up my 20mm British force slowly, so now I have some Shermans and Cromwells completed, currently working on some Achilles and Churchills, and just ordered a couple of armoured cars.

Looked at ordering from Milicast, but oh my the prices.

To make these plastic PSC and Armourfast models seem a bit chunkier I've been lining the hulls with plasticine, gives them a bit of heft.

Once the paint jobs are complete, I've been spraying the AFV's with Testors Dullcote, gives a really good matt finish.
